The Most Advantaged Life Possible

Categories: Devotional,Psalms,John

Someone once prayed to the Lord, “You are my LORD; apart from you (italics added) I have no good thing” (Ps 16:2).

This is similar to what someone else prayed, “Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever” (Ps 73:25-26).

Can you top knowing who made you and who is now making you new? If not, by comparison to anything, it is not hyperbole to say that apart from the Lord you “have no good thing.”

You may remember another “apart from” saying in the Bible. Jesus says, “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me (italics added) you can do nothing” (Jn 15:5).

Jesus calls us the branches, and himself the vine. Apart from him we truly “have no good thing.”

The good news is that if you are not apart from Jesus then you have the most advantaged life possible. No exaggeration.

Now that’s something to celebrate!
